Blenders

Blenders

Devices outfitted with sharp blades or rotating paddles for the homogenization of samples ranging from plant and animal tissue to fluid suspensions for a variety of clinical applications. Accessories and replacement parts also included.

Laboratory blenders are used to mix, purée, or emulsify a substance. Styles include standard benchtop, mechanical immersion, and paddle varieties, and ultrasonic homogenizers.

Standard Laboratory Benders

Standard blenders have a rotating metal blade that sits above an electric motor. A reusable vessel fits over the blade to contain the substance to be blended. Standard or benchtop blender containers typically have a capacity of 1 to 2L (4 to 8 cups) and the vessel may be made from glass, plastic, or stainless steel. These blenders usually offer a range of speed options from three to 16.

Standard blender blades and vessels are generally shaped to allow the material to move through the blades. The blades also create a whirlpool effect that moves the solids from top to bottom to create a homogeneous mixture.

Paddle Blenders

Paddle or “masticating” blenders are used with a closed flexible container (typically a plastic sample bag) that holds the material to be blended. Paddle blenders are especially useful for samples that must not come into direct contact with the device, including food samples being tested for microbiological contamination or nutritional content.

Immersion Blenders and Homogenizers

Immersion blenders typically have the motor on top and the blade at the bottom of an attached shaft. The shaft and blade are lowered into a container to blend the substance. They can be used with most other containers and do not have a container of their own. Immersion blenders are useful for processing large or heated samples or when safe handling is a concern.
