Determine the susceptibility of staphylococci to meticillin and oxaclillin with this selective medium.
Brand: Thermo Scientific™ PO0879A
Description
Determine the susceptibility of staphylococci to meticillin and oxacillin with Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Columbia Agar Base with 2% Salt. The addition of 2% sodium chloride to Columbia Agar Base is recommended by the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC)1 using the BSAC disc diffusion method.
Traditionally, blood agar has been either casein hydrolysate or meat infusion media. The advantage of the first lies in the rapid production of large colonies and of the second in clearly defined zones of hemolysis and good colonial differentiation. Columbia Agar Base with 2% Salt combines the virtues of both of these types of media to give an improved all-round performance, showing versatility and superior performance.2
- Tests in accordance with BSAC using the BSAC methodology for disc diffusion.
- Facilitates large colony production, clearly defined hemolytic reactions and typical colony morphology.
- Ready-to-use convenience of prepared media.
