Applications
- It plays a role in the production of flavors such as meat flavor obtained by reacting with sugars
- This compound is also applied to the cleavage of disulfide bonds in keratin, the main protein in nails, skin, and hair
- In chemical research, it is used as a crucial raw material in the manufacture of N-acetyl-L-cysteine, S-carboxymethyl-L-cysteine, and L-cysteine base
- L-Cysteine is a component of the antioxidant glutathione and has been shown to be involved in the metabolism of essential biochemicals such as coenzyme A, heparin, and biotin
- In vitro studies demonstrated that this compound can neutralize the activity of acetaminophen. In addition, due to its antioxidant activity this compound can protect the nervous system.
