Description
Glypican-3 (GPC3), is a member of the glypican family of heparan sulfate proteoglycans. GPC3 has an important role in cell growth and differentiation. GPC3 expression has been observed in embryonic tissue including fetal liver while benign and healthy liver specimens are negative. Literature suggests that GPC3 is overexperssed in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) while it appears to be down-regulated in several other malignancies such as mesothelioma, ovarian carcinoma, breast carcinoma and intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinomas. Studies also suggest a potential link between GPC3 expression and poor prognosis in HCC3. In addition, Avidel-Ronen et al suggests that Glypican-3 is a potential marker for early detection of squamous cell carcinoma of the lung2.Host Species: Mouse
